Softball Recap: Thursday's Defeat Ends Mankato West's Winning Streak

After a string of eight wins, Mankato West's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of the Owatonna Huskies by a score of 4-3. Surprisingly, this marked the Scarlets' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Evelyn Erickson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up six Ks. Those six strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Jillian Olsen was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Lydia Banse, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Mankato West's loss dropped their record down to 12-4. As for Owatonna, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-6 record this season.

Mankato West will be playing at home against Winona at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Owatonna, they will venture away from home to square off against New Prague at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
