Willow Glen and Live Oak are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Rams will head out to face off against the Acorns at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Willow Glen saw some tournament action on Saturday. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pioneer. The loss put an end to the Rams' undefeated start to the season.
Willow Glen saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Miles Austin, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Live Oak had just enough and edged out Oak Grove 6-5 on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Acorns in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won three in a row.
Brody Costa was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Costa was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases.
In other batting news, Nathan Bergstrom and Adrian Torres did most of the damage at the plate: Bergstrom went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Torres went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Will Habina was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
The win got Live Oak back to even at 1-1-1. As for Willow Glen, their defeat was their first of the season and also makes their record 1-1-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Willow Glen has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Live Oak struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Willow Glen was able to grind out a solid victory over Live Oak in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, winning 5-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
