Basketball Recap: Carterville Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Emma Rogers and Layla Yates

Carterville played a tough contest on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 56-30 to the Sesser-Valier/Waltonville Red Devils. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 463rd, while the Red Devils are ranked 214th).

Layla Yates and Emma Rogers certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Yates posted nine points and six rebounds, while Rogers put up 11 points.

Carterville has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season. As for Sesser-Valier/Waltonville, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Carterville will venture away from home to challenge Murphysboro at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Sesser-Valier/Waltonville, they will challenge Elverado at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
