Basketball Recap: Eastside Eagles vs. David Crockett Pioneers
Eastside was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 96-26 loss at the hands of the David Crockett Pioneers. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 127th in South Carolina, while the Pioneers are ranked seventh in Tennessee).
Kayleigh Doner was her usual excellent self, as she made all 8 shots she took to post 17 points in addition to eight steals and seven assists for David Crockett. The dominant performance gave Doner a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Story, who went 7 for 13 on her way to 18 points and three blocks.
Eastside's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for David Crockett, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 11-0.
Eastside will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Boiling Springs at 6:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. As for David Crockett, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Sumter at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. David Crockett knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Sumter likes a good challenge.
