Baseball Game Preview: Monterey Toreadors vs. Soledad Aztecs

For the second straight game, Monterey will face off against Soledad. The Toreadors will welcome the Aztecs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Monterey came out on top against Soledad on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run sixth inning. The Toreadors blew past the Aztecs 8-1. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 8, 2025, but that streak is no more.

Tristan Trego made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Monterey is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 6-7 otherwise. Trego was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2025.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gino Grammatico, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Greyson Everett, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Soledad's defeat dropped their record down to 7-9-1. As for Monterey, their win bumped their record up to 9-7.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Monterey has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Soledad struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
