The Ballston Spa Scotties will head out on the road to challenge the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Spartans at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Ballston Spa is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.2 runs per game this season.
Bethlehem Central hit Ballston Spa with a six-run seventh inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Scotties fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 10-9. The Scotties have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Madelyn Perrone made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three runs and four RBI. Ava Boni also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over Jamesville-DeWitt on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.
Ava Yahoudy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on zero hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Emily Martin, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Another player making a difference was Bailey Dinon, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Ballston Spa, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Ballston Spa hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Ballston Spa couldn't quite get it done against Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 4-0. Can the Scotties avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
