Preview: Radford Bobcats vs. Alleghany Cougars
Radford is 10-0 against Alleghany since February of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Radford Bobcats on the road again and play against the Alleghany Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Radford scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They took down Patrick County 66-52.
Meanwhile, Alleghany came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past James River with points to spare, taking the game 55-36. Given Alleghany's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while James River is ranked 394th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Radford's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-7. As for Alleghany, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season.
Radford won a contest that couldn't have been any closer in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, slipping by Alleghany 58-57. The rematch might be a little tougher for Radford since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
