Baseball Recap: Citrus Hurricanes vs. Hernando Leopards
Citrus extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-3. They came up short against the Hernando Leopards, falling 9-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Hurricanes of the 3-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2025.
Landon Sanders was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
As for Hernando, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 11.5 runs this season.
On Hernando's side, Reagan Wilkes looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Lucas Chafin was excellent, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2025. Brody Hedick was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Citrus will head out to take on Vanguard at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hernando, they will venture away from home to challenge Central at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
