Softball Recap: West Warwick Takes Down Ranked Portsmouth

West Warwick faced Portsmouth in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Wizards blew past the Patriots 14-5. Considering the Wizards have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Bryce Principe spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up eight Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sophia Muschiano, who fired off two home runs and three runs while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrianna Carsetti, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: West Warwick kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

West Warwick has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Portsmouth, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
