Softball Game Preview: Madisonville-North Hopkins Maroons vs. Lyon County Lyons

Madisonville-North Hopkins has gone a perfect 7-0 against Lyon County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Maroons will head out to challenge the Lyons at 6:00 p.m. Lyon County took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Madisonville-North Hopkins, who comes in off a win.

Madisonville-North Hopkins took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Trigg County a 3-0 shutout.

Sadie Kirk and Mackenzie Stoltz were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Kirk didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Meanwhile, Stoltz tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Kirk has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. At the plate, Kirk went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Stoltz went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Lyon County's offense. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Marshall County on Tuesday.

Lilly Perry spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on ten hits.

Madisonville-North Hopkins' victory bumped their record up to 20-8-1. As for Lyon County, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-16-1.

Madisonville-North Hopkins came out on top in a nail-biter against Lyon County when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Maroons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
