Baseball Recap: Owensville's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Pacific, Owensville was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past the Sullivan Eagles 4-3. The victory was some much needed relief for the Dutchmen as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Chase Weirich was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Owensville is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 4-7 otherwise. Weirich was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and one double.

In other batting news, Jaden Gerlemann was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zaiden Gates, who earned one run and two stolen bases.

Owensville's record is now 7-8. As for Sullivan, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 12-12.

The future could be bright for both Owensville and Sullivan: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. The Dutchmen will look to extend New Haven's three-game losing streak when they meet at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Sullivan will try to hand Eldon their third-straight defeat when the two meet at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
