Basketball Game Preview: Penasco Panthers vs. Pecos Panthers

Penasco and Pecos are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Penasco Panthers will square off against the Pecos Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Saturday, Penasco came up short against Los Alamos and fell 48-40. The Panthers have struggled against the Hilltoppers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the defeat, Penasco got top-tier performance from Rochelle Lopez, who posted 21 points along with six rebounds and five steals. With that strong performance, Lopez is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Adelita Trujillo, who scored six points and nine boards.

Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Pecos' good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell just short of Capital by a score of 48-46.

Penasco's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Pecos, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-5.

Penasco strolled past Pecos in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a score of 50-32. Does Penasco have another victory up their sleeve, or will Pecos turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
