Basketball Recap: Shiprock Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Joaquin Nez and Ashton Keith

Shiprock was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 16th straight loss. They fell 39-30 to the Bloomfield Bobcats. The match was a 12-12 toss-up at halftime, but the Chieftains couldn't quite close it out.

Ashton Keith and Joaquin Nez certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Keith posted nine points, while Nez earned seven points.

Bloomfield found their leader in sophomore Elijah Cooks, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 13 points. Kaydin Nelson was another key player, putting up five points.

Shiprock's defeat dropped their record down to 2-16. As for Bloomfield, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-9.

Shiprock is taking a road trip to challenge Aztec at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Bloomfield, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Gallup at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bloomfield is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.1 points per game this season.
