Basketball Recap: Cannon Takes a Loss

Cannon easily dispatched Charlotte Christian last Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Cannon Cougars fell just short of the Charlotte Country Day School Buccaneers by a score of 82-80 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Cougars have suffered since November 22, 2024.

Despite the loss, Cannon saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Sean Nix shot 6-for-11 from long range and almost dropped a double-double on 36 points and nine rebounds. The contest was Nix's ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Ingram, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine boards.

Davonta Dj Lindsey was his usual excellent self, going 9 for 13 en route to 25 points and four steals for Charlotte Country Day School. The dominant performance gave Dj Lindsey a new career-high in points. Jerome Lowery was another key player, going 5 of 8 on his way to 10 points in addition to six assists and six rebounds.

Cannon moved to 11-9 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Charlotte Country Day School, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-10 record this season.

Cannon will face off against Charlotte Latin at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cannon knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 20 games -- so hopefully Charlotte Latin likes a good challenge. As for Charlotte Country Day School, they are taking a road trip to square off against Providence Day at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Providence Day will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something Charlotte Country Day School surely won't give up without a fight.
