Softball Game Preview: San Rafael Bulldogs vs. Novato Hornets

San Rafael has gone a perfect 10-0 against Novato recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Hornets at 4:30 p.m. San Rafael will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

On Wednesday, San Rafael got the win against Terra Linda by a conclusive 11-4.

Thomara Drummer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sophia Everett, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lila Kim, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Novato fell victim to Redwood and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Giants. That's two games in a row now that the Hornets have lost by exactly five runs.

The win got San Rafael back to even at 10-10. As for Novato, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-16.

San Rafael took their victory against Novato in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
