Stanwood and Monroe are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. The Spartans will face off against the Bearcats at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Stanwood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Stanwood will bounce into Thursday's match after beating Marysville Getchell, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Spartans came out on top against Marysville Getchell by a score of 11-6 on Tuesday. The win was familiar territory for the Spartans, who have now won three contests in a row.
Megan Stulc and Addison Anderson made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Stulc struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Meanwhile, Anderson tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. Stulc has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Stulc got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two RBI, while Anderson fired off two home runs, four runs, and one stolen base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. What's more, Stulc posted two hits, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Stanwood got a massive performance out of Rubi Lopez, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. Lopez has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Reagan Ryan, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Stanwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Marysville Getchell only posted an OBP of .371.
Monroe let Everett stack four runs on them in the third inning on Tuesday but luckily Monroe prevailed anyway. The Bearcats had just enough and edged out the Seagulls 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bearcats have posted since April 22, 2024.
The team relied heavily on Scarlett Nagy, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Hadley Oylear, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Monroe has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Stanwood, their record now sits at 13-2.
Monroe's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Stanwood has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.4 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Monroe, though, as they've been averaging only 3.4 strikeouts. Will Stanwood keep running through batters, or will the Bearcats buck the trend?
Everything went Stanwood's way against Monroe in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as Stanwood made off with a 10-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
