Basketball Recap: Central Beats Hampshire for Their Fourth Straight Win

Central came tearing into Wednesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.7 points), and they left with even more momentum. They came within six points of losing the streak, but they secured a 64-58 W against the Hampshire Whip-Purs. Given the Rockets' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while the Whip-Purs are ranked 308th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Central got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Patrick Magan out in front who went 6-for-9 on his way to 12 points in addition to six assists and six boards. That's the most rebounds Magan has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Caden West, who went 5-for-9 to rack up 14 points.

Central pushed their record up to 22-8 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.2 points over those games. As for Hampshire, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-19.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Central will welcome Cary-Grove at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hampshire, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Crystal Lake South at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Crystal Lake South will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Hampshire surely won't give up without a fight.
