Recap: Discovery Spartans vs. Mulberry Panthers
The Discovery Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by Mulberry at home and fell 61-27. While losing is never fun, Discovery can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 613th, while Mulberry is ranked 256th).
Lorianys Castanon Cruz was her usual excellent self, scoring 38 points for Mulberry. That makes it 11 consecutive games in which Castanon Cruz has scored at least a third of Mulberry's points. Another player making a difference was Jayleeonna Boswell, who scored seven points.
Discovery's defeat dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Mulberry, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Discovery will take on Auburndale at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Auburndale comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 17 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Mulberry, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Plant City at 6:30 p.m. Plant City is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
