Recap: Newberry Bulldogs vs. Abbeville Panthers
The Newberry Bulldogs entered their tilt with the Abbeville Panthers with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Newberry came out on top against Abbeville by a score of 82-73 on Tuesday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Abbeville's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Justin Rollinson, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds and five assists, and Jd Baylor who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Baylor also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Damarcus Leach, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Newberry's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-9. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.7 points per game. As for Abbeville, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newberry will face off against Ninety Six at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Ninety Six is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak. As for Abbeville, they will head out on the road to take on Saluda at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Saluda will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 239th, while Abbeville is ranked 71st).
