Recap: Ben Davis Giants vs. Pike Red Devils
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Ben Davis Giants walked away with it. They breezed by Pike on the road to the tune of 53-0. Considering Ben Davis has won seven matches by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Thomas Gotkowski looked great while leading his team to the win, throwing for 133 yards and two touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes, and also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Michael Searcy did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 146 receiving yards and a touchdown.
The victory was the seventh in a row for Ben Davis, bringing their record for this year to 11-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 North Central and 3-8 Pike (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 44.7% over those games). As for Pike, their loss dropped their record down to 3-8.
Ben Davis will head out on the road to face off against Cathedral at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Indiana (Cathedral is ranked seventh, while Ben Davis is ranked first). Pike does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
