Softball Recap: Friday's Defeat Ends Houston's Winning Streak

Houston fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Botkins on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Trojans. Having soared to a lofty 22 runs in the game before, the Wildcats couldn't push the score so high this time.

Makenna Vondenhuevel spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on six hits and racked up 17 Ks. Those 17 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Houston saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Maier, who went 1-for-4 with one run.

Houston moved to 17-8 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Botkins, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-8.

Coming up, Houston will challenge Arcanum at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Botkins does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
