Proviso East is 0-10 against Willowbrook since April of 2019 but things could change on Wednesday. The Pirates will host the Warriors at 4:30 p.m. Proviso East has given up an average of 11.4 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Monday just wasn't the day for Proviso East's offense. They lost 18-0 to Leyden on Monday.
Proviso East saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jazlean Hernandez, who went 1-for-2 with one triple.
Meanwhile, Willowbrook waltzed into their game on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 9-8 W against the Bulldogs. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Warriors have posted since May 10, 2025.
Kyliegh Miazga looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Marli Smrz was incredible, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-3. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Allison Coppersmith, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Willowbrook lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Proviso East's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Willowbrook, their win bumped their record up to 8-10.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Proviso East hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .357. However, it's not like Willowbrook struggles in that department as they've averaged .325. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Proviso East might still be hurting after the 17-1 defeat they got from Willowbrook when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Can the Pirates avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
