Baseball Recap: Homestead Has No Trouble Against Nicolet

Homestead's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They put the hurt on the Nicolet Knights with a sharp 7-1 win. The victory was some much needed relief for the Highlanders as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Charlie Blume made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Sean Lemke was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Gavin Levin was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI and one double.

Homestead always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Homestead's win bumped their record up to 3-10. As for Nicolet, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-11.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Homestead will challenge Cedarburg at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Highlanders are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Nicolet, they will face off against West Bend West at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Spartans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Knights' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
