Softball Recap: Green Bobcats vs. Portsmouth Trojans
Green extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 4-11 in the process. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Portsmouth Trojans. The Bobcats were not able to make up for their loss to the Trojans from their previous meeting back in April of 2018.
Green saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aliya Bradley, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.
As for Portsmouth, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games.
On Portsmouth's side, Katie Ankrom made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and not a single walk). Ankrom has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Madison Boren was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 11 matchups. Another player making a difference was Bailey Waughtel, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Looking ahead, Green will head out on the road to square off against East at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Tartans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.8 runs per game on average), something the Bobcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Portsmouth, they will be playing at home against Dawson-Bryant at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Hornets will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight.
