Football Recap: Notre Dame (SO) Comes Up Short at Home Against Downey + How To Watch

Notre Dame (SO) unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Downey Vikings by a score of 24-21 on Friday. If the Knights were looking for revenge after losing 42-21 to the Vikings when the teams met back in August of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Notre Dame (SO)'s loss came despite strong showings from Noel Washington and Wyatt Brown. Washington rushed for 115 yards and one score while picking up 7.2 yards per carry, while Brown rushed for 60 yards and a pair of TDs.

Oscar Rios was nothing short of spectacular for Downey: he threw for 309 yards and one touchdown while completing 72.7% of his passes, and also rushed for 128 yards on only 14 carries. That's the most passing yards Rios has posted since back in September of 2024. 121 of Rios' passing yards were hauled in by Jesus Rios.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Notre Dame (SO) will face off against Bishop Alemany at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Downey, they will square off against Orange Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
