Basketball Recap: Isabella Cosme's Big Game Can't Quite Lead the Pilgrim Academy over Atlantic Christian

The Pilgrim Academy suffered their closest defeat since January 11th on Thursday. They fell just short of the Atlantic Christian Cougars by a score of 26-23. The Pioneers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cougars earlier this season, when they won 29-28.

Several Pioneers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Isabella Cosme, who posted six points along with six rebounds and three steals. Cosme has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Addison Brittin was another key player, putting up seven points.

Even though they lost, The Pilgrim Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 21 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

It was another big night for Gianna Flynn, who went 6-for-12 to rack up 13 points and three steals for Atlantic Christian. Flynn is becoming a predictor of Atlantic Christian's success: when she posts at least three steals the team is undefeated (and 5-9-1 when she doesn't).

The Pilgrim Academy now has a losing record of 8-9. As for Atlantic Christian, the win got them back to even at 9-9-1.

Looking ahead, The Pilgrim Academy will welcome Oakcrest at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Atlantic Christian, they will venture away from home to take on Cape May County Tech at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
