Softball Game Preview: Carson Cougars vs. Lake Norman Charter Knights

Carson is on a three-game streak of home losses, and Lake Norman Charter a three-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Monday. The Carson Cougars will be playing at home against the Lake Norman Charter Knights at 5:30 p.m. Carson has given up an average of 9.9 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Carson lost 11-1 to West Rowan on Friday.

Meanwhile, Lake Norman Charter had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They never let Robinson get on the board and left with an 18-0 win on Friday. The Knights' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Morgan Gadd made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Ilyana Smith was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Sarah Negrete was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.

Lake Norman Charter always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .680. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.
