League recap: Ramapo tops West Milford to extend winning streak

Ramapo extended the longest winning streak in Big North - Independence this week by beating West Milford, 52-7. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.

Ramapo was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping the Highlanders. Drew Gibbs' team came in at 16 in the state poll after placing at number 35 last week.

Pascack Valley's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Kyle Schneider threw for 202 and three touchdowns and Nick Soravilla had 84 yards receiving. On the ground Chris Garcia chipped in 128 yards. Kevin Illian helped Pascack Valley's passing attack out by catching four balls for 62 yards.

Anthony Battinelli made the biggest impact on defense this week as West Milford lost to the Raiders. The 5-foot-9 junior grabbed one sack.

The Indians' Schneider and Soravilla have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Schneider has thrown for 1159 yards this season, while Soravilla, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 19 catches for 422 yards. Will Rodriguez from Bergenfield leads the league in rushing with 995 yards.

The Bears' Rodriguez needs only five yards against Donald Dougherty's team next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Highlanders take on Bergenfield. West Milford is currently in fifth, while Rob Violante's team is in fourth.

Ramapo made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 965 from 1,550. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 52-7 victory over the Highlanders last week.
