Softball Preview: Civic Leadership Eagles vs. Bulkeley Bulldogs
The Civic Leadership Eagles will venture away from home to square off against the Bulkeley Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Civic Leadership barely beat Academy of Science and Innovation the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Eagles blew past the Ravens 14-5 on Tuesday. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Ravens recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Bulkeley hadn't beaten Hartford Public on the road since May 12, 2017 but that history sure didn't bother them on Monday. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by a 33-20 margin over the Owls. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Bulldogs have posted against the Owls since May 12, 2017.
Zorangely Molina was incredible, going 4-for-6 with nine RBI, three runs, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Rodriguez, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with four runs and three RBI.
Bulkeley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Bulkeley's win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-4. As for Civic Leadership, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Civic Leadership took their victory against Bulkeley in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 25-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
