Basketball Game Preview: Apex Cougars vs. Voyager Academy Vikings

The Apex Cougars will take on the Voyager Academy Vikings in a tournament on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Apex saw some tournament action on Saturday. They received a blow as they fell 70-53 to Southeast Alamance. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 469th, while the Stallions are ranked 49th).

Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Voyager Academy's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a hard 70-54 fall against Burlington Christian Academy.

Apex will have to contain Manny Pullium as he made an impact in Voyager Academy's last game. He went 5 of 8 en route to 18 points. Pullium is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlos Green, who posted 12 points.

Apex's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Voyager Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-6.

Apex ended up a good deal behind Voyager Academy when the teams last played back in December of 2015, losing 81-65. Thankfully for Apex, Chance Greene (who put up 23 points along with seven assists and five boards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
