Leechburg never got on the board in their matchup last Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Ellis on Monday. They blew past Ellis 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Blue Devils, who have now won five matches by eight runs or more so far this season.
Addie Zanotto made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Zanotto was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Leechburg got a massive performance out of Emily Talarico, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Talarico also brought in two RBI, marking her first of the season. Danica Sopcak was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Leechburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ellis only posted an OBP of .250.
Leechburg has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Ellis, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
Looking ahead, Leechburg will host Serra Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Blue Devils are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Ellis, they are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will square off against Jeannette at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. This will be Ellis' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
