Football Recap: Bloomington North Cougars vs. Bloomington South Panthers
It was a proper cat-fight when Bloomington North challenged Bloomington South on Friday. The Cougars were dealt a 36-7 loss at the hands of the Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana football rankings (they are ranked 76th, while the Panthers are ranked 18th).
Special teams was responsible for all of the team's points. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Carter Matthew, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Bloomington South's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Duncan Combs, who threw for 315 yards and three TDs while completing 75% of his passes. What's more, Combs racked up 156.3 passer rating, the most he's had since back in September of 2024. Connor Parker was Combs' top target, picking up 133 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
This is the second loss in a row for Bloomington North and nudges their season record down to 1-3. As for Bloomington South, they pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their third straight at home.
Bloomington North wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 56-0 victory against Terre Haute North Vigo on the 19th. As for Bloomington South, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 49-14 win against Terre Haute South Vigo on the 19th.
