Baseball Recap: Miami Springs Takes a Loss

Miami Springs fell victim to Belen Jesuit and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Belen Jesuit Wolverines by a score of 2-0. The match marked the first time this season in which the Golden Hawks were not able to get on the board.

Kevin Roque was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent : he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

The loss snapped Miami Springs' winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-2 record. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Belen Jesuit, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

Looking ahead, Miami Springs will be playing in front of their home fans against Tocoi Creek at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Miami Springs is on a seven-game streak of home wins, Tocoi Creek a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field. As for Belen Jesuit, they will venture away from home to square off against Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Catholic will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something Belen Jesuit surely won't give up without a fight.
