Softball Recap: Kimberly's Winning Streak Snapped at 15 Games

Kimberly dropped their record down to 25-3-1 on Friday, which also ended the team's 15-game streak of wins. They took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cole Valley Christian Chargers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Chargers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-0 back in April.

Brooklyn VerWey was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

As for Cole Valley Christian, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 20 of their last 21 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games.

On Cole Valley Christian's side, Karlie Barnum spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits. Barnum has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lauren Colson was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and one stolen base while going 3-for-4. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in April. Abbie English was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Kimberly has already played their next game, an 8-1 win against Weiser on the 17th. Hopefully Cole Valley Christian paid attention to the Bulldogs' contest: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Bulldogs at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday.
