Baseball Recap: Whiting Comes Up Short

Whiting extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 3-12. They came up short against the Hammond Morton Governors, falling 14-3. If the Oilers were looking for revenge after losing 17-4 to the Governors when the teams met back in May of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Kaiden Kender made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Sean Steele also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

As for Hammond Morton, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-8 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by eight runs or more this season.

On Hammond Morton's side, the team relied heavily on Nate George, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases George has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Michael Stevens, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Whiting will welcome Chicago Washington at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.93 runs per game on average), something the Oilers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hammond Morton, they will host Hebron at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
