Basketball Game Preview: Fruita Monument Wildcats vs. Ralston Valley Mustangs

The Fruita Monument Wildcats will face off against the Ralston Valley Mustangs at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Fruita Monument has ten straight wins, Ralston Valley has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Saturday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Fruita Monument beat Durango 45-39.

Fruita Monument's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Olivia Campbell, who posted 15 points and three steals. Campbell's big performance that afternoon made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hailee Wagner, who had eight points and ten rebounds.

Meanwhile, Ralston Valley was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Saturday as they fell 50-45 to Arvada West.

Despite the defeat, Ralston Valley saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Santana Sabus to rack up 19 points in addition to eight boards and three steals. Evi Morwood was another key player, putting up seven points.

Fruita Monument's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-6. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 25.9 points. As for Ralston Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 12-11.
