Softball Recap: Turner Trojans vs. Marshall Cardinals
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Turner can now relate to. They fell just short of the Marshall Cardinals by a score of 1-0 on Thursday. Considering the last time the Trojans couldn't score was back in April, the team can't take the result too hard.
Olyvia Piranio spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Turner saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maddy Hoenig, who went 2-for-3 with one double.
Turner's loss dropped their record down to 19-4. As for Marshall, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 17-10.
Turner does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Marshall, they will square off against Poynette at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pumas will roll in looking for their 15th straight victory, something the Cardinals surely won't give up without a fight.
