Softball Recap: Cannon County Starts Season with Loss on the Road

Cannon County had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They fell just short of Central Magnet by a score of 8-7 on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Lions in their meetings with Central Magnet: they've now lost seven in a row.

Haley Smitty led a balanced group of hitters, scoring a run while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Wood, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.

Central Magnet's win ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-0.

Looking ahead, Cannon County will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Grundy County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. This will be Grundy County's first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Central Magnet, they will face off against Marshall County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
