Softball Game Preview: Baker County Wildcats vs. West Nassau Warriors

The Baker County Wildcats will venture away from home to square off against the West Nassau Warriors at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Baker County is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Baker County barely beat Keystone Heights the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Baker County never let Keystone Heights get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Tuesday. The match marked the Wildcats' most dominant win of the season so far.

Grace Masterson tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Baker County let Chloe Johnson and Sadye Harvey run wild. Johnson went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and one double, while Harvey went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs Harvey has posted since back in April of 2024. Masyn Barlow also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Baker County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive games.

Meanwhile, West Nassau didn't have quite enough to beat Middleburg on Tuesday and fell 7-6.

Baker County pushed their record up to 5-0-1 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for West Nassau, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-2.

Baker County might still be hurting after the 15-5 defeat they got from West Nassau in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Baker County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
