Basketball Recap: Tipton Falls Despite Big Games from Makayla Schinlaub and Hollyn Wilson

Tipton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. Their2024 ended with a 50-33 defeat against the Western Panthers. While the Blue Devils didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Panthers 11-6 in the first quarter.

Despite the loss, Tipton had strong showings from Hollyn Wilson, who posted four points and nine boards, and Makayla Schinlaub, who had eight points and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Wilson a new career-high in assists (three).

Western was led to victory by Ellyse Walden and Ella Rawlings. Walden went 5 of 10 on her way to 12 points and seven rebounds, while Rawlings put up 11 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Kayleigh Auth, who posted five points and four steals.

Tipton's defeat dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Western, with the victory, they broke their nine-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-11.

Tipton will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Mississinewa at 7:30 p.m. on January 7th. As for Western, they will take on West Lafayette at 3:00 p.m. on January 4th. Someone's luck will take a turn for the better: West Lafayette has lost four straight at home , while Western has lost ten on the road (dating back to last season).
