Recap: Shenandoah Valley Blue Devils vs. Marian Catholic
The Shenandoah Valley Blue Devils lost against Marian Catholic back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Shenandoah Valley received a tough blow as they fell 64-46 to Marian Catholic. While losing is never fun, Shenandoah Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 664th, while Marian Catholic is ranked 143rd).
Despite the loss, Shenandoah Valley still got an impressive performance from John Silvestre, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds. Silvestre is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Estuardo Salguero, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
Marian Catholic's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was James Rodino, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. Those 12 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Julius Currie, who scored 11 points along with eight assists and three steals.
Shenandoah Valley's defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-5. As for Marian Catholic, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-1.
Shenandoah Valley will be home for the holidays to greet Mahanoy Area at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Mahanoy Area knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six games -- so hopefully Shenandoah Valley likes a good challenge. As for Marian Catholic, they will head out on the road to face off against Weatherly at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Weatherly focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Thursday.
