Baseball Recap: Rootstown Comes Up Short

Rootstown had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 7-10 to make it four. They fell just short of the Mogadore Wildcats by a score of 3-2. The Rovers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

As for Mogadore, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-10. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 7-10 Rootstown and 8-10 Central Christian.

For Mogadore's part, Jake Hopkins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Mogadore's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Maddox Smith, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rootstown will welcome Central Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mogadore, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Waterloo at 5:00 p.m.
