Basketball Recap: Columbia Comes Up Short

Columbia's game on Tuesday was all tied up 24-24 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 62-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hobgood Charter Raiders. The loss continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now lost three in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Columbia lost, don't look at Jayden Sawyer. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 27 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 54% of Columbia's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Ja-Kwon White was another key player, putting up nine points in addition to eight boards and four steals.

Even though they lost, Columbia smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 17 consecutive games.

Columbia's record now sits at 3-14. As for Hobgood Charter, their win bumped their record up to 6-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Columbia will head out to face off against Mattamuskeet at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hobgood Charter has already played their next matchup (against Bear Grass Charter), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
