Baseball Recap: Caldwell Academy Takes a Loss

Caldwell Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 8-4 to the South Stanly Rowdy Rebel Bulls. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Eagles of the 9-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

Caldwell Academy got a good showing from Liam Schooley, who pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Schooley is becoming a predictor of Caldwell Academy's success: when he allows at most two hits the team is 2-1 (and 2-4 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Reid Silvers was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Spencer McBurney was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Caldwell Academy now has a losing record of 4-5. As for South Stanly, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-1.

Looking ahead, Caldwell Academy will host Salem Baptist Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Caldwell Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season. As for South Stanly, they will head out to challenge Gray Stone Day at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
