Football Game Preview: Bishop Timon-St. Jude Tigers vs. Monroe Red Jackets

The Bishop Timon-St. Jude Tigers will face off against the Monroe Red Jackets at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

As a matter of fact, Bishop Timon-St. Jude put up the most points they have all season on Friday. They came up short against St. Francis, falling 59-35. The Tigers were up 20 in the first, but they couldn't quite seal the deal.

Bishop Timon-St. Jude's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Marquis Harris, who threw for 151 yards and a pair of TDs, and Javonte Solomon, who rushed for 109 yards and one touchdown.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 11 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Amari Worthy, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Monroe strolled into their game on Saturday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They blew past Batavia 50-0. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Red Jackets' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Blue Devils are ranked 187th).

Monroe's win came from a few key players Bishop Timon-St. Jude will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Messiah Hampton, who picked up 223 receiving yards and two scores. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 112.7 receiving yards per game. Another player making a difference was Pooty Cunningham, who threw for 350 yards and three TDs while completing 78.9% of his passes.

Bishop Timon-St. Jude's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Monroe, their victory bumped their record up to 7-0.
