Basketball Game Preview: Lafayette Rams vs. Hopewell Blue Devils

The Lafayette Rams will venture away from home to face off against the Hopewell Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Lafayette is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They breezed past Tabb to the tune of 51-18. The win was nothing new for the Rams as they're now sitting on six straight.

MaKayla Keys continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, putting up 14 points in addition to eight assists and five steals. What's more, she posted four rebounds, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Makayla Brooks, who earned 12 points along with seven boards and three steals.

Meanwhile, Hopewell entered their tilt with New Kent on Tuesday with six consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with seven. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Trojans 76-30. Given the Blue Devils' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th in Virginia, while the Trojans are ranked 280th in Virginia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lafayette pushed their record up to 16-6 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.9 points over those games. As for Hopewell, their win bumped their record up to 14-4.

Lafayette didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Hopewell in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 60-55 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Hopewell's Erin Edmonds HV17, who dropped a double-double with 32 points and 11 rebounds.
