Basketball Recap: Gray Stone Day Takes a Loss

Gray Stone Day was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were outmatched by the Jackson Day Mariners and fell 81-31. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 559th, while the Mariners are ranked 170th).

Despite the loss, Gray Stone Day saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Max Poplin went 8 of 12 en route to 18 points. Those 18 points gave Poplin a new career-high.

It was another big night for Aiden Fisher, who went 12 of 22 on his way to 30 points for Jackson Day. Fisher is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Makai McKnight, who went 5 for 8 on his way to 13 points.

Gray Stone Day's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Jackson Day, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season.

Gray Stone Day didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 61-38 loss against Lee Park Prep on the 12th. Jackson Day has also already played their next contest, an 80-34 defeat against Queen's Grant on the 13th.
