Volleyball Recap: Valparaiso Vikings vs. Kouts Mustangs & Fillies
After flying high against Michigan City on Tuesday, Valparaiso came back down to earth. The Vikings fell just short of the Kouts Mustangs & Fillies by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs & Fillies apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.
Valparaiso actually scored more points across those five sets (106-98), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 12-25, 25-22, 21-25, 15-12.
Owen Morris paced Valparaiso's offense, picking up 21 kills. Morris got some help from Colton Allen and his 19 assists. Morris was also solid from the service line: he led the team with three aces.
Valparaiso's defeat ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-2. As for Kouts, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Valparaiso has already played their next matchup (against Merrillville), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Kouts, they will square off against Boone Grove at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The contest will give the Mustangs & Fillies their first taste of in-conference action this season.
