Basketball Recap: Manzanola Comes Up Short

Manzanola was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 20th straight loss dating back to last season. They were beaten by the Springfield Longhorns 58-2. The game marked the Bobcats' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Leading Springfield to victory were Cobi Mackey and Jersey Speck. Mackey almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine boards, while Speck went 6 for 13 en route to 16 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. The contest was Mackey's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Bay Ellis, who posted six points and three steals.

Manzanola's defeat dropped their record down to 0-14. As for Springfield, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Manzanola will take on Hanover at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Manzanola is facing Hanover at the right time seeing as Hanover is stuck on a 14-game losing streak. As for Springfield, they will face off against South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Springfield knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully South Baca [Campo/Vilas/Pritchett] likes a good challenge.
