Baseball Game Preview: Fleming Island Golden Eagles vs. Fernandina Beach Pirates

The Fleming Island Golden Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Fernandina Beach Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fleming Island is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.

Things were looking good for Fleming Island after they put the first runs on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell 11-6 to Fletcher.

Fleming Island got a good showing from Ryan Kiley, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits Kiley has allowed since back in February.

At the plate, Fleming Island saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caden Swartz, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Evan Huber also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 15 runs the game before, Fernandina Beach was a bit more limited in their match on Thursday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Tocoi Creek.

Fernandina Beach has also been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 16-6 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Fleming Island, their loss dropped their record down to 6-18.

Fleming Island came out on top in a nail-biter against Fernandina Beach in their previous meeting back in April of 2019, sneaking past 3-2. Will the Golden Eagles repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
